Last night I was watching WUSA’s nightly news & they did a segment of a nonprofit organization that own 9 homes in a community here in the DMV. However, what the organization did w/the homes is what really made the story astounding. They rented these homes to families that previously owned a home but lost it due to the economy. Now, of course, there are stipulations to their program; one being that the families had to have a yearly salary of atleast $50K. I thought that was a good, valiant effort on behalf of the non-profit organization to give families a second chance at homeownership.
When the news anchor interviewed the wife, she admitted that they made some bad financial decisions which ultimately led to the lost of their home. However, they are on the road to recovery. To me, that says that they owned up to their choices & they’re rolling with the consequences by making the best of their situation as they possibly can. The news story went on to say that the family had been homeless & separated from each other for quite a while. At the time of the breaking story, they were just happy to be back together, all under one roof.
We all can hit that snag…no one is exempt. CNN posted an article entitled “Housing New Nightmare” where they talked about how the job market will continually affect the housing market. As companies continue to downsize and people continue to get lose their job, the housing market will continue to decline. NO one is off limits. Everyone is affected by this. If you are currently in this situation & you know, with all certainty, that things will not change in the immediate future, then you owe it to yourself to seek assistance FAST! Trust me, the longer you avoid facing this situation head on, the more difficult it will be in the end to resolve.
